When you select "Remove
Image ", where does the image go? Where it came from? Recycle? I can't find
it. |
|
When you remove an image from the filmstrip or
event view, it does not delete the actual image from the original source where
you got it (i.e. hard drive, camera). All images within PhotoVisor are
maintained independently within memory until they are saved into a PVA file. If
you accidentally delete an image in your album, you have two options:
(1) You can immediately hit the "Undo" key or menu
item after the accidental removal. This will restore the image back to the view
in its previous location, or
(2) You can always re-insert the image from it's
original location (hard drive, camera, etc...). |
 |
Is there any way to
EXPORT the jpeg files contained within a PVA? |
|
Yes, the current version of PhotoVisor Creator now
provides support for exporting JPEG files to disk. Just right click on the
image and a pop up menu will appear. Select "Save Image". A save dialog will
appear. |
 |
Is there any way to
bring in images of the same name so they can be viewed and or played within a
collection? |
|
Yes, the current version of PhotoVisor has the
ability to bring in different images of equal filenames (which keeps you from
having to rename files before loading). Uniqueness qualities of images are now
based on creation date and time rather than file name. |
 |
How many pictures and
songs can I add to one show (PVA)? |
|
That really depends on the amount of systems
resources you have available. There are really no restrictions to the number of
pictures or songs you can add to a PVA show within PhotoVisor. However, the
version of Windows you are running and the amount of physical RAM will dictate
your PhotoVisor limitations.
The question you must answer is, "what amount of
resolution do you want from the PVAs you build using PhotoVisor so that you can
easily share them?" PhotoVisor allows you to adjust the resolution and
compression of images stored within a PVA. We suggest keeping the resolution to
no greater than your screen size resolution (typically 1024 x 768), and the
compression quantity at no less than 10 %. We've found most users are
comfortable with 640 x 480 resolution and a compression quantity of 20%. For
soundtracks, we suggest using WMA or MP3 files as opposed to WAV file.
PhotoVisor will tie all these files together (images and soundtracks) to
produce a single PVA file that is compressed. You may choose to burn the PVA
onto a CD (if it is large), or email the PVA (if it is small). Keep in mind the
size though, large files sent over wire to an email address is not considered a
friendly gesture. |

I occasionally get a
message when I try to add more pictures that says "The Paramater is incorrect."
How can I fix this? |
|
This message was more prevalent in the older
versions of our software when running under Windows 95, 98 or Millennium (Me).
These three operating systems handle the allocation and swapping of memory
quite differently than Win 2000 or XP. Occasionally, when images are being
added to PhotoVisor, the system kernel is unable to pre-allocate the space
necessary to load in the next image into memory. Newer versions of PhotoVisor,
however, provide significant improvement in forcing the pre-allocation of space
allowing you to load even more images. Please download the latest version of
PhotoVisor if you are experiencing this problem. You may also want to consider
increasing the amount of RAM for your system. Finally, another option is to
upgrade to Windows 2000 or XP, which handles memory swapping much more
efficiently. |
 |
I received the error
message from PV that "there are not enough resources". What do I
do? |
|
This is similar to the above issue. Be sure you
have downloaded the very latest version of PhotoVisor. Many of the early
resource issues have been corrected in Version 1.5.
If you continue to have problems, try the
following...
(1) Before you try to load in a new picture, click
on the "PVA/System Info" Tab. You should see some memory information. We
encourage you to monitor the Available Physical Memory status as try to load in
new images.
(2) Also, be sure you have the memory alarm in the
Settings Dialog set. (To get to the dialog click Options - Settings off the
menu bar, or the button with the tools off the tool bar.) In the Settings
Dialog (Application Settings tab), make sure Perform Memory Check is enabled
and your alarm limit is at least 1mb. This is designed to warn you if you're
running out of memory when you load images or sounds. If you continue
experiencing problems, I suggest bumping it up to 2mb.
(3) As general rule, if you're experience problems
or the PhotoVisor memory alarm goes off (which is what we'd prefer), try
closing all other applications. Closing other apps will increase the amount of
Available Physical Memory. Also, check to see if you have a lot of icons in the
system tray (which show up in bottom right of the screen), these are really
applications running in the background. Perhaps you can close some of these. If
there are a lot of apps that run in the background, you might be pushing the
limit with the amount of memory available under Windows 95/98/Me. Again, what
we've found is that Windows 95, 98 and Millennium all struggle with memory page
swapping with a majority of multimedia applications. |

PhotoVisor won't accept
the product registration key that was sent to me when I purchased it online.
What do I do? |
|
We use a wide range of characters in our
registration key. Some of the letters and numbers look similar. Hence, the
likelihood is that the registration key was mistyped when you entered it into
PhotoVisor. We suggest copying the key provided to you and pasting it into each
field within the PhotoVisor Registration Dialog. It's easy to get an alphabetic
"O" and a numeric "0" mixed up. |

I keep getting error:
"Can't find file: windows\temp\instmsia.exe" I did a search and file not on my
computer, tried to re-download to no avail? |
|
We're sorry you're experiencing problems
installing our software. The file you are missing is actually a Microsoft
Installer component, found on systems that have been updated with the latest
Microsoft patches. Unfortunately, users of older or unpatched operating systems
need to download this component for installing software applications such as
PhotoVisor. Please select the link associated to the operating system you use
below.
This will bring you to the appropriate Microsoft
download page. Instructions are provided on how to download and install the
Installer component. After the Microsoft Installer component is installed,
please try installing PhotoVisor again. |

The help feature does
not appear to be installed. When we click on help using PhotoVisor Creator, we
get a message that the help file was not installed. The installation directory,
however, shows the help file. How come it won't launch using PhotoVisor
Creator? |
|
This problem only occurs on a handful of systems.
It turns out that one of the DLL files (INETWH32.DLL) that we provide should be
re-located to the Windows System directory. This is a common DLL provided by
many software venders who include a help program with their application. The
reason why many users do not have this problem is because an install of another
application would have likely copied this DLL into the system directory. We
chose to have it copied to the install directory for PhotoVisor upon
installation. Our Help program runs if you double click it in Windows Explorer,
but when it's launched from the application, a number of things happen causing
the operating system to look for it in the Windows/System directory. Therefore,
what you need to do is copy the INETWH32.DLL for the PhotoVisor Install
directory into your Windows/System directory. Then, next time you run
PhotoVisor, the help should launch without a problem. We'll correct this
problem on the next PhotoVisor update. |

I have created large
family photo albums accompanied by music, dialogue etc. It all works well on my
computer but when I sent the CDs to my children, they could not hear any sound.
What can be done to rectify this problem? |
|
There are three possible reasons why they may not
hear any sound to your PVA:
#1 - They may need DirectX 8 or higher installed
to play MP3s / WMAs. (www.microsoft.com/directx).
#2 - If the sound tracks associated to your PVA
are MP3 or WMA (and DirectX8 is installed), there very well could be a music
license issue depending upon how you "ripped" your music (if it came from an
Audio CD). For example, Windows Media, by default, will only allow you to play
your music on your local machine unless you "uncheck" the Enable Personal
Rights Management. Of course, we cannot advocate nor can be held responsible
for the sharing of copywritten material with PhotoVisor. We suggest using music
that can be freely distributable.
#3 - Finally, there's always the chance the volume
control for "Wave" output is turned down even though the "CD" output is up. To
check, just have them double click on the sound icon in the system tray. It
will bring up a dialog showing the volume levels. |
 |
Are there options
available when transitioning from one photo to another? |
|
Our current version of PhotoVisor provides only a
standard flip transition between slides and blanks. We are strongly considering
adding expanded transition support for future versions. However, standard flips
provide the most efficient mechanism for putting together a rapid fire slide
show. |
 |
Can I save my PVA
created using PhotoVisor onto a CD, which could be mailed (snail mail) to
anyone anywhere? Could the recipients then be able to view the CD without any
additional software on his/her end other than a CD reader on their computer (PC
compatible)? |
|
You are more than welcome to save your PVAs on a
CD and send those to others. PVAs can be viewed using the PhotoVisor Player,
which is freely distributable and available from our web site. Upon written
permission, you may also copy the PhotoVisor Player image installation onto
your CD that you distribute. Just contact us at
info@simventions.com to let us know
who you are and the intended audience for distribution of our PhotoVisor Player
software. |

PhotoVisor is
great...very user friendly. However, I can't get the lock feature to work
properly. I am trying to put two groups of pictures into one album and assign
(synchronize) a different sound track to each one. I can't get it to work. Is
there a glitch in the software that I am not aware of? Any suggestions would be
appreciated. |
|
Yes and no. There are some minor visual issues
with synchronizing two groups of pictures into one album with PhotoVisor 1.5,
however you should still be able to do exactly what you intended. The process
is to...
(a) Load multiple images, associate those images
to a sound track (in either order). (b) Make sure Auto Synch is enabled.
(c) Once you're happy with the images and the sound track, go ahead and
"lock all image play lengths". NOTE: A dialog should appear titled "Lock
All?" with the question, "Do you wish to preserve play lengths for all images."
You want to select "YES". (d) Next, "add" another sound track, and add the
next batch of images (in either order). (e) After all images and the new
sound track is added, click on Auto Synch (make sure it's pushed down
(enabled)). NOTE: A dialog should appear titled "Enable Auto-Image Music
Synch?". You want to select "YES."
PROBLEM: You may notice the filmstrip view does
not show the last group of pictures in synch with the last soundtrack when you
have followed all these steps. Despite its appearance, however, it should be
fully synchronized. To verify, please test play the PVA. We apologize for the
filmstrip view issue and plan to correct the view problem for the next 1.5+
update release. |
